recent writtens | 2 Wake Up

By | Food for thought, Music, Uncategorized | No Comments

My homie Richie Traktivist hit me about a song to submit to a mixtape project to promote AAPI people to vote. You can find the original submission here.

Much LOVE to my friends, Eric Sun (Engineer) and Daniel Oh (Guitar) for helping me out with the original track.

I wrote this song while dealing with my own personal desensitized approach to life. I dont always resonate with what the world needs, i find myself always searching for whats in my own best interests. i hope the lyrics help you find yourself, the way i found some parts of myself while writing it. salute.

Wake up
I say my grace before she make up
we keep up, so we dont get the pay cut
the paper
like we programmed something major
life is like a cake shop
a slice of all the flavors, buying all that we are craving its,
living the life, living it twice if we could, and its
paying the price getting a nice place in the wood
is that all that we are made of
money luxury we chasing
when i look into the mirror, im facing
i see myself and
i see my mama struggle
aching in her bones and muscles
we came from nothing
barely had a phone and roof to cover
pantry cupboards empty
wondering where next months rent be

i see myself and get the feeling that im someone else
im running from the hell, losing my only side thats real
the part the feels a single smile’s all i need to heal
like why my mama got my pic next to her dollar bills
im feeling jaded but i still feel like i havent made it
im so impatient but ill wait a century to be famous
ill never say it but what im praying for us over rated
maybe i should take a second and just get some space but,

wake up
all that stuff that i was saying just a second ago
will never make it to the surface
i was feeling nervous but that xanex got me perfect
im hoping that my feed be, the only way you see me
my purpose
im doing everything for me
make sure my wrist and my feet make my cypher complete
why these homeless people working
they just need to be here working
why they asking for my paper
they need jesus christ the savior,

suddenly im taken back to the days
when we were fractions away
from packing all that we had, we couldnt stay.
i lose faith in it and i hate living
but mama kept on praying til that safety net was a safe haven and

i see myself and get the feeling that im someone else
im running from the hell, losing my only side thats real
the part the feels a single smile’s all i need to heal
like why my mama got my pic next to her dollar bills
im feeling jaded but i still feel like i havent made it
im so impatient but ill wait a century to be famous
ill never say it but what im praying for us over rated
maybe i should take a second and just get some space and,

wake up.

Wrote this for the challenge. Honestly, I wrote a lot of versions of this verse, and struggled a bit with the transitions, but im happy with the end result. I appreciate you checking this out.

Usually the way it goes
its a bunch of I don’t knows
With a hunch of how the flow
once you overcome this obstacle
its golden

the flow can be a pot of gold
its possible to hit a high roll
or win the lotto
my motto play your cards
and never fold em

my quest levels
i rest never
to stress devils
my left pedals
my right meddles
in bass treble
my brain together
makes treasure
like 2 shells pressured
til i paint pictures
of my city
like Hense Sever

I tend to be like this
The mic my centerpiece and vice it’s
Priceless
like holy water boiled with fire by scientists
to find the right mix
so when i spit theres a slight twist of identity crisis

fresh as some iced drinks
on top of bars
never flip off my light switch
no last calls
never wearing out like nice kicks
still in the ball park of
ballin or I’m falling hard
regardless my eyes fixed on

blue skies
take my chance like its the new chi
these new guys
doing it like music has her tubes tied
with bruised thighs
now on the other side
the blue line
want us shook twice like some boobs off a noose live

On the news fox
Got us looking lost
and all the new hot
Im hearing fuzz like a loose aux

Non elemental
Dead to our fathers
When I see young thugs
Wearing dresses to their barbers

This ain’t a huge shock
Its static from the roof tops
views not clear
On the changes word to 2pac

when who shot ya
the weak and the obsolete
tend to be
running these streets
now with news choppers
or its bickering beef
i can see tears running down a moms cheek

its nonsense we’re only mammals
on a long stay with consequence
on both side of the fence
like harambe

WATS – The Grins

By | Music, Roark Bailey, The Songs | No Comments

Jennifer Chung and joules join forces with Roark Bailey to deliver this super chill summer-time jawn that represents life with ya main squeeze. This track is the first of many more to come from the duo, WATS (we are The Songs).

This track has a throwback feel to it. Production and writing are all hip-hop influenced, with a touch of electronica and pop. Be sure to follow us on Soundcloud and repost if you are digging the track!

This started as a video company back in 2012. The transitions have been endless, and many times ive thought about ending it all. just erasing this whole season from my life. this burden to want to build something for myself, for my family. i think the constant over-emphasis on what it needs to be stopped me, and i feel that happening to me again. i know there is little i can do to persuade you to like what gets put out thru this website, thru this company. all i can do is just do my best and try and keep things moving in a forward motion. i appreciate all the support. Special shoutout to Kollaboration ATL, Traktivist.com, ISA.tv, a-tunes, allKpop, and all my friends and family that want to see me do more with my creativity. Thank you God for giving me the talents to create. i love you all, and i will keep rockin as long as i can.

joules – Rotate [remix] Featuring Jennifer Chung | Flipped by Kellen Nguyen

By | Lifestyle, Music, Roark Bailey, The Songs, Video | No Comments

Currently im listening to Dilla and loathing the fact that i actually have to update this website with this new content at the moment, My typing is sloppy, and i usually like to try to be clever with what i type, but right now im so burnt out that i dont really have anything constructive to say, except that im blessed… and its hard for me to realize it at times. I have friends that shot this for me. I have people that allowed me in their homes to shoot scenes. I have a company that allows me to use their space as long as i ask permission first. i have a wife that just loves to sing and will get on any track with me. why am i complaining? why am i having such a hard time with posting up new content all the time?… it gets to me that its fuckin’ May already and in my calendar i was supposed to have my next album cut… none of it is recorded and only half of it is written. but all of these things dont mean anything, unless you have good character. be thankful for what you have. be humbled by the people that support you. numbers dont mean shit if your heart aint in the right place.

Rotate comes from a place of honesty. the lyrics represent my current state of mind. please enjoy as i have enjoyed putting this song together.
