Music has been with me my whole life. Mom and Dad we’re part of the church choir, always singing Korean gospel tunes around the house. My older sister played multiple instruments and excelled, which inspired me to pick up the Trumpet in 5th grade. Between the horn and piano, music took up a large part of my childhood and brought me so much joy. I quit piano after my dad died, and quit Trumpet in 11th grade because my high school band teacher made it mandatory to join marching band if you were in band class. Marching band culture wasn’t for me. I stayed and played in Jazz band til senior year, but by then I was more infatuated with partying and girls…. I was heavy into that fake thug asian thang.

Freshman year of college my homie George found this software called Fruity Loops and we all started making beats. FL turned into Reason, Reason turned into an MPC 1000. I picked up Ableton during my Spaceheaters era and have been making beats ever since.

know words to say vol. 1

This is a collection of beats either created or refined during the pandemic. I love this album because during this time in my life all I needed to focus on was music, my love life, and my xbox lol. Super chill lifestyle brought about some super chill tunes.

The artwork represents a Korean cultural juxtaposition. Women are expected to be good girls, refraining from the many ills their male counterparts usually participate. Women were looked down on for drinking, smoking, and partying… Although it was taboo, women still participated in these activities… but in secret.

I love seeing people in their element. I love seeing beyond the façade. I love seeing the realness. A peace of mind comes about when the presence of a standard disappears. The existing power structure is broken down for a short moment, and the only power that is felt is from within, and it’s peaceful.
